If they were to introduce the character Mary Morstan in the BBC Sherlock series, I want her to be awesome.
In my headcanon, Mary Morstan or should I say, Marie Morstan is a supermegafoxyawesomehot French spy. She is an ex-fiancee of Dr Watson.
They accidentally bumped into each other, literally, at some medical conference in London. John was bullied to go to the conference as he was a new houseman and Marie was there as part of her spy assignment. John, always the gentleman, helped the injured Marie after their accident and some how along the way they fell in love.
Sadly, their engagement was a short one, as both parties lead a totally different lifestyle. They parted amicably and went on their own separate ways. But there is still the lingering feeling of love and care between them, especially on Marie's case. A sense of regret would sometimes surface on Marie's mind, but work always come first.
Marie Morstan is not afraid to go toe to toe with Sherlock. Her personality is almost the same as Sherlock, but less arrogant and more socially adapt. Sherlock and Marie would probably verbally and later, physically beat each other senseless during their first meeting since both individual will be vying for the good doctor's attention.
